Privacy policy

This page explains what Gognora stores when you use it, why, who else handles it, and how you can export or delete it.
What we store
- Your account. Your name and email address. If you sign up with a password, we store it only as a one-way hash, never the password itself. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture link from Google, and keep the sign-in tokens Google issues.
- What you upload.We read the text out of each PDF, Word or text file and store that text (up to 48,000 characters per document) with the file's name and type. We do not keep the original file. For image uploads, only the file name is used; the picture itself is not read or stored.
- What Gognora creates for you. The summary, flashcards and quiz made from each upload. Your flashcard ratings and quiz answers are not saved; they only last while the page is open.
- AI tutor conversations are not saved by Gognora. They live in the page while it is open and are gone when you leave or clear the chat.
Who processes your data
To create summaries, flashcards and quizzes, and to answer AI tutor questions, the relevant text is sent to Anthropic, which provides the Claude AI model Gognora uses. Anthropic's handling of that data is described in Anthropic's privacy policy.
If you choose to sign in with Google, Google handles that sign-in under its own privacy policy.
Everything else is stored in Gognora's own database on our server. We do not sell your data.
Cookies and browser storage
- Sign-in cookies keep you logged in and protect sign-in forms. They are needed for the app to work.
- Browser storage remembers your light or dark mode choice and which notifications you have already seen. It stays in your browser.
Gognora does not use advertising or analytics trackers.
Your choices
- Export: download everything we hold about you as a file from Settings → Account → Export your data.
- Delete a document: from the Upload or Summaries page. Its summary, flashcards and quiz are deleted with it.
- Delete your account: from Settings → Account. Your account and all your study data are deleted straight away, and you are signed out on every device.
- Change your details: your name, email and password in Settings → Profile.
